Start with the question you’re already carrying
Open Questions is a growing collection exploring the questions that come up when you’re making your own work and building a life around what matters to you.
Through tarot, symbolism and creative enquiry, we’ll look at familiar questions from different angles, uncover what might be going on beneath them and open up new possibilities.
You might find the question you came with, or one you didn’t know you needed to ask.
Start with whatever catches your attention.
How do I know what I actually want?
Knowing what you actually want can be difficult when every desire immediately has to pass a test. Is it sensible? Can you afford it? What will other people think? A place to begin is noticing what draws your attention—and giving it a little room before deciding where it has to lead.
What If I Didn’t Start Again?
What happens when something ends and you resist the urge to immediately replace it? A story about not knowing, building a life and body of work from what came before, and finding a structure spacious enough to hold what keeps changing.
I Was Trying to Solve the Wrong Problem
When something you care about becomes difficult, how do you know whether you need more discipline or a different way of working? An exploration of effort, resistance, structure, and what happened when I stopped assuming I was the problem.
I Kept Trying to Begin Again
What happens when you’ve changed direction enough times that you stop trusting your own enthusiasm? A story about repeated beginnings, the patterns we mistake for failure, and a tarot reading that made me wonder if I’d been looking at mine all wrong.
